UPD - UR Workshop for Mangrove Biodiversity Studies by eDNA Metabarcoding

Welcome to Iriomote Station!

We are pleased to hold a joint research workshop for the Institute of Biology, University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) and Tropical Biosphere Research Center (TBRC), University of the Ryukyus (UR) for 14 - 16 January 2025 at Iriomote Station.

The enduring international collaboration between UPD and UR has encompassed various initiatives focused on mangroves and coral reefs. In January 2025, this partnership was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance research and education. This workshop serves as a significant milestone to commemorate the MOU and to explore new avenues for collaborative biodiversity studies in mangrove ecosystems.

With the generous support of JSPS Core-to-Core, eASIA, AJ-CORE, and KAKENHI International (B), we successfully convened an international workshop featuring participants from six countries. This gathering provided a platform for the exchange of ideas and the exploration of opportunities to further strengthen international collaboration in these critical areas of study.

17 January morning: Workshop for eDNA metabarcoding-related biodiversity study in Mangrove environment. All student participants have talks on their research projects.
