Welcome to Iriomote Station!

We are pleased to hold the “1st International Workshop for Mangrove Biodiversity Studies by eDNA Metabarcoding” at Iriomote Station, Tropical Biosphere Research Center (TBRC), University of the Ryukyus, Japan.

The international collaboration project for eDNA research on global mangroves started in 2020 by obtaining support from JSPS Core to Core, but because of the outbreak of Covid-19, we haven't realized face-to-face activities. Under the difficult situation of the pandemic, we held online symposiums, seminars, and training courses, and sought the chances to expand the international collaboration. Our efforts bore fruits, and we newly obtained international research grants, CRRP Malaysia, e-ASIA JRP, JSPS KAKENHI Fostering Joint International Research (B), and AJ-CORE JRP. Our international collaboration to study the biodiversity of the global mangrove ecosystem has a step forward to the next stage!

By obtaining support from these projects, we hold the first face-to-face after the long Covid-19 restriction for international travel. We started this event with five Asian countries that allow international travel of participants. In the one-week workshop, we hold lectures, seminars, and training courses for eDNA analyses. We still have various Covid-19 restrictions and difficulties to perform face-to-face workshops, but we will do our best. We hope this workshop will be good practice for us to hold another one in near future.
